Twitch subscriber badge resizer and 25 KB checker
The short answer
A Twitch subscriber badge must be uploaded at 18 × 18, 36 × 36 and 72 × 72 pixels as transparent PNGs, each 25 KB or smaller — checked 31 July 2026.

Badges must be uploaded at 18 × 18, 36 × 36 and 72 × 72 as transparent PNGs of 25 KB or less each. The Twitch help portal is JavaScript-rendered, so this was corroborated from the published article summary rather than a direct HTML read.

Why this asset is awkward
Badges are the most constrained asset on Twitch. Eighteen pixels square, transparent, and under 25 kilobytes — a budget so tight that a badge with a soft gradient and an anti-aliased outline can fail the byte check at the largest size while still looking like nothing at the smallest.
This page exports the full ladder from one source, shows each file’s exact byte count against the 25 KB ceiling, and renders the 18-pixel output at true size beside a magnified copy. If a size is over budget, you will see it here rather than in a rejected upload.

What the overlays mean
The centre box is our guideline, not a Twitch rule. At 18 pixels a badge is effectively a single icon: one silhouette, one or two colours. Keeping the shape inside the box leaves a pixel of breathing room so the badge does not merge with the username next to it.
- 18 px legibility corekeep content here
- Social Toolshed guideline, not a Twitch rule: badges render at 18 px beside a username. One bold silhouette inside this box survives; fine detail does not.
Three things that go wrong
- 01
Design the 18 px version first
Work out what reads at 18 pixels, then scale that idea up to 72 — not the other way around. Badges designed at 72 and shrunk almost always lose their point.
- 02
Flat colour beats gradients for the byte budget
Gradients and soft shadows add noise that PNG cannot compress, which is what pushes a 72 × 72 badge past 25 KB. Flat fills usually land under 5 KB.
- 03
Make tiers differ by shape, not just colour
A viewer scanning chat cannot compare two 18-pixel colours side by side. If your 3-month and 6-month badges differ only in hue, nobody will notice the upgrade.
Questions people actually ask
What size are Twitch sub badges?
Three sizes are required: 18 × 18, 36 × 36 and 72 × 72 pixels. Unlike emotes, Twitch does not generate the smaller sizes for you — all three must be uploaded, which is why this tool exports the complete set as a ZIP.
Why is my Twitch badge rejected for file size?
The limit is 25 KB per file and it applies to each size independently. The 72 × 72 version is the one that usually fails. Reducing gradient noise, dropping a drop shadow, or simplifying the outline typically halves the byte count without changing how the badge reads.
Do sub badges need a transparent background?
Yes. Twitch expects transparent PNGs so badges sit correctly beside usernames on both chat themes. This page keeps the alpha channel and shows you a transparency check before export.
Can I use the same artwork for an emote and a badge?
You can, but they behave differently. Emotes get 112 pixels and 1 MB; badges get 72 pixels and 25 KB, and are read at 18 rather than 28. Artwork that works as an emote is often a little too detailed for a badge — compare the two tiny previews and simplify if needed.
