Discord PFP cropper
The short answer
Discord masks every avatar to a circle, so this tool crops your image to the circle and can export a PNG with genuinely transparent corners rather than a square you hope gets masked correctly — checked 31 July 2026.

Discord’s stated minimum avatar is 128 × 128. A 512 × 512 upload is a safe working target for high-density screens. Discord’s support site blocks automated reads, so the byte ceiling is corroborated rather than quoted.

Add your image
Drag a file here, paste from the clipboard, or choose one below. PNG, JPEG and WebP.
Nothing is uploaded. The file is read by this tab only.
Runs on your device. Your image is decoded, cropped and encoded by this browser tab. It is never uploaded, and there is no image-processing service behind this page.
Why this asset is awkward
The size page tells you what Discord accepts. This page does the other half of the job: it actually cuts the circle. Position and zoom your image, and export either the plain square that Discord will mask itself, or a PNG that is already circular with transparent corners.
The masked export matters when you reuse the avatar elsewhere — a forum, a website, an overlay — where nothing crops it for you. Both options are one click apart, and the crop happens entirely on your device.
Cropping the circle yourself also removes the guesswork. Uploading a square and hoping the mask lands well is how people end up with an avatar that cuts off the top of their head; here the mask is drawn over the image while you position it, so there is nothing left to discover after the upload.

What the overlays mean
The circle is the mask Discord applies. The smaller circle in the bottom-right is the status indicator, which is punched out of the avatar rather than drawn over it, so pixels there are removed entirely.
- Circular display cropcropped away
- Discord always masks avatars to a circle, and the online-status dot covers the bottom-right.
- Status indicatorcovered
- Approximate position of the online-status dot, which is punched out of the bottom-right of every avatar.
Three things that go wrong
- 01
Use the arrow keys for the last few pixels
Dragging gets you close; the keyboard nudge moves one pixel at a time so you can centre an eyeline properly.
- 02
Export masked for anything outside Discord
The transparent-corner PNG drops cleanly onto any background. The square export is the one to upload to Discord itself.
- 03
Check it at 32 px before you commit
The member-list preview is the honest test. A crop that works at 96 px often reads as an anonymous blob at 32.
Questions people actually ask
How do I crop a picture into a circle for Discord?
Upload it here, position it inside the circle guide, and export. Discord will mask a square upload to a circle automatically, but this tool also gives you a pre-masked PNG with transparent corners if you want the circular file itself.
Does Discord need a circular image?
No — Discord accepts a square and masks it. The reason to crop the circle yourself is control: you can see exactly what survives the mask instead of finding out after upload.
Will a transparent PNG avatar look right on Discord?
Transparent corners are harmless because Discord masks them anyway. Transparency inside the circle is riskier: Discord composites the avatar on light or dark depending on the viewer’s theme, so a design that relies on the background showing through can disappear for half your server.
