Pinterest profile picture size

The short answer

Pinterest displays the profile picture as a 165 × 165 circle; uploading an 800 × 800 square keeps it sharp on high-density screens — checked 31 July 2026.

Pinterest renders the profile picture at 165 × 165 as a circle. Uploading 800 × 800 keeps it sharp on high-density displays; Pinterest does not publish a separate recommended upload size for it.

Why this asset is awkward

The number people are looking for is 165 × 165, because that is what Pinterest renders. It is also a bad thing to upload: on a retina display a 165-pixel image is being stretched to twice its size and looks soft next to everything around it.

Upload a larger square and let Pinterest downscale. This editor crops to 1:1, shows the circular mask, and previews at both the profile size and the small byline size that appears beside every pin you save.

The byline version is the one that matters most, because it travels: it appears next to your pins wherever they surface, in front of people who have never seen your profile. A mark that is legible at 32 pixels does more work than a photograph that only resolves at 165.

What the overlays mean

The dimmed corners are removed by the circular mask. Pinterest applies it on your profile and beside each pin, so the inscribed circle is the only part that ever appears.

Three things that go wrong

  1. 01

A logo needs padding inside the circle

Scale a mark to about 80% of the circle so it does not appear clipped by the mask.

  2. 02

    Light backgrounds work better here

Pinterest’s interface is white. A dark circle reads as a hole in the page unless that is a deliberate part of your identity.

  3. 03

    Check the byline preview

The 32-pixel version beside a pin is where most people encounter your avatar, not the profile header.

Questions people actually ask

What size is a Pinterest profile picture?

Pinterest renders it at 165 × 165 as a circle. There is no separate published upload recommendation, so upload a larger square — 800 × 800 is a good default — and let Pinterest scale it down.

Should I upload exactly 165 × 165?

No. It will look soft on high-density screens. Upload larger and let Pinterest do the downscaling, which is what it is optimised for.

Is the board cover the same size?

No — board covers display as squares at a larger size and are covered by the board cover tool on this site.
