Instagram post mockup generator
The short answer
This generator places your image inside a neutral post frame — avatar, name row and action row — so you can show a client or a teammate how a post will read, and exports the whole mockup as a PNG — checked 31 July 2026.

1080 × 1080 is the standard square post canvas used by the collage, carousel and layout studios.

Why this asset is awkward
Showing a bare 1080 × 1080 export to someone who is not a designer rarely lands. Put the same image inside a post frame with an avatar and an action row and the composition suddenly makes sense, because that is the context it will be seen in.
The frames here are deliberately generic: plain shapes, no platform logos, no reproduced interface artwork. They exist to communicate scale and crop, not to imitate Instagram. You can set a display name and caption, switch between light and dark, and export the framed mockup as a PNG.

What the overlays mean
The image area inside the frame is the true crop — everything you see there is what actually gets posted. The surrounding chrome is a neutral illustration of context and is never part of the exported asset unless you choose the mockup export.

- A square post fills its profile grid tile exactly, with no further cropping.
- Profile grid crop (1:1)keep content herePost 4:5
- A 4:5 post is cropped to a square on your profile grid, losing the top and bottom.

- Meta recommends keeping text and logos out of roughly the top 250 px and bottom 250 px of a 1080 × 1920 Story, where the profile row, timer and reply bar sit.

- The bottom strip carries the reply field and share actions.
Three things that go wrong
- 01
Use it for approval, not for publishing
Export the clean asset for Instagram and the framed mockup for the deck. Posting a mockup by accident is an easy mistake to make.
- 02
Dark mode changes everything
A design with a white background floats on a light frame and becomes a glowing rectangle on a dark one. Check both before you sign it off.
- 03
Keep the caption honest
A three-word caption in the mockup and a four-line caption in reality is how designs get approved and then break.
Questions people actually ask
Is this an official Instagram mockup?
No. The frames are neutral, generic shapes drawn by this tool. They contain no Instagram logos, no reproduced interface elements and no branding, and this site is not affiliated with Instagram or Meta.
Can I export the mockup itself?
Yes — you get two exports. The clean asset is the image alone at full resolution, for posting. The mockup export is the framed version as a PNG, for presentations.
Does it work for Stories as well as posts?
Yes. Switch the canvas to 1080 × 1920 and the frame becomes a full-screen Story frame with the top and bottom interface strips indicated.
