Why this asset is awkward
At 4:1 the LinkedIn banner is an extreme letterbox — four times wider than it is tall — and your profile photo sits over its lower-left corner, hanging below the bottom edge. Roughly the first eighth of the image is behind a circle, permanently.
The mobile app then crops the sides inwards, so a wordmark placed near the left or right edge disappears on phones, which is where most profile views happen. This editor marks both the photo overlap and the mobile band on your own image so you can position once and be correct on both.

Treat the left eighth as background
Your photo lives there. A logo or a headline placed at the far left is being designed for nobody.

Short lines beat paragraphs
At 396 pixels tall on desktop and much smaller on mobile, a banner can carry about five words legibly. A value proposition, not a bio.

Check it against both themes
LinkedIn has a dark mode. A banner that fades to white at the edges creates a visible seam against a dark profile card.
