TikTok video size and dimensions

The short answer

A TikTok video should be 1080 × 1920 pixels at 9:16, with TikTok stating 540 × 960 as the minimum accepted resolution — checked 31 July 2026.

Source: TikTok Ads Manager — Creative best practices · Last checked · CORROBORATED

TikTok publishes 9:16 at 540 × 960 minimum and explicitly says the safe zone changes with caption length, ad format and add-ons — it distributes downloadable safe-zone templates rather than a fixed pixel table. The 130 / 483 / 44 / 140 px figures used here are the widely applied conservative values for a 1080 × 1920 frame and are marked as observed guidance, not a quoted rule.

Why this asset is awkward

TikTok accepts a wide range of ratios and letterboxes anything that is not 9:16, which wastes the parts of the screen that get the most attention. 1080 × 1920 fills a phone exactly and is the resolution every other TikTok spec is expressed against.

This page is for the still work around a video: end cards, title frames, static posts and the frame you will use as a cover. It crops to an exact 1080 × 1920 and shows the interface overlays so a title frame does not end up behind the caption.

What the overlays mean

The overlays mark the action rail on the right and the caption block at the bottom. For a still frame these matter more than for video, because a static title has nowhere else to go.

TikTok safe areakeep content here
The region left clear once the top chrome, the right-hand action rail and the caption block are accounted for. TikTok states the safe zone varies with caption length and ad format, so treat this as a conservative working area.

The username, caption and audio row occupy the bottom of the frame and grow with caption length.

Three things that go wrong

  1. 01

    Vertical or nothing

A 16:9 clip posted to TikTok occupies about a third of the screen. If you only have landscape footage, fill the frame with a blurred background rather than letting TikTok pad it with black.

  2. 02

    540 × 960 is a floor, not a target

TikTok accepts it, but it looks soft on a modern phone. Export at 1080 × 1920 whenever the source allows.

  3. 03

Design the end card for the caption block

A call to action at the bottom of the last frame is behind the username and caption. Put it in the middle.

Questions people actually ask

What are the TikTok video dimensions?

1080 × 1920 pixels, a 9:16 vertical ratio. TikTok’s published minimum is 540 × 960 for in-feed assets, but 1080 × 1920 is what you should export.

What TikTok image size should I use for a photo post?

The same 1080 × 1920 canvas. Photo posts are shown in the same vertical player, so a square or landscape image is letterboxed. This editor crops any source to the full-bleed frame.

Does TikTok compress uploads?

Yes, substantially. Uploading at exactly 1080 × 1920 gives TikTok no reason to rescale before it compresses, which preserves text edges better than sending something larger.
